Our Approach
Non-conventional therapies. Science-based herbalism. Root-cause healthcare. Personalization. Monitoring.
S19 Herbal Clinic is a Bafoussam-based herbal and integrative wellness clinic. We combine traditional knowledge of medicinal plants with modern laboratory testing, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, health education and evidence-informed natural interventions.
The S19 philosophy
Do not treat blindly. Understand the person, investigate the problem, identify its underlying drivers, and build a comprehensive strategy around them.
When someone develops diabetes, hypertension, chronic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, digestive or hormonal problems, recurrent infections, or another chronic health condition, our first question is not simply: “What can we give this person for the symptoms?”
We also ask: “Why is this happening?”
Treatment is then designed around the individual rather than around the name of the disease alone. S19 is not simply a place that sells herbal medicines - it is a healthcare system and a philosophy.

Root-cause healthcare
Not masking symptoms - treating the root cause.
Symptoms are important, but they may represent only the visible part of a deeper physiological problem. In Type 2 diabetes, reducing blood glucose is important - but we also consider the metabolic processes behind elevated glucose, particularly insulin resistance, excess visceral fat, physical inactivity, nutrition, sleep, stress, inflammation and other relevant risk factors.
This applies across chronic and metabolic diseases. Our approach can be summarized as: Investigate, understand, correct, support, monitor and educate.
We do not treat blindly
Whenever appropriate, we encourage objective assessment before designing a health program. Treatment should be guided by information - not guesswork. These findings help us understand what may be happening physiologically and establish measurable baselines.
- Medical history
- Previous diagnoses
- Current medications
- Symptoms
- Laboratory investigations
- Medical imaging
- Blood pressure and other vital signs
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Nutritional assessment
- Lifestyle assessment
- Review of previous medical reports
Science-based herbalism
We respect the long history of medicinal plants, but we do not believe that “natural” automatically means effective or safe. Herbs contain biologically active compounds, so we evaluate pharmacology, dosing, interactions, contraindications and the available scientific evidence before anything is prescribed.
- Pharmacology
- Phytochemistry
- Human physiology
- Appropriate preparation
- Dosage
- Herb-drug interactions
- Contraindications
- Toxicity
- Patient-specific factors
- Available scientific evidence
How we work
Herbs are only one part of S19.
A major mistake would be to present S19 as a place that simply gives patients herbal mixtures. Our philosophy is much broader.
Herbal Medicine
Carefully selected medicinal plants and formulations according to the patient's needs.
Nutrition
Food is one of the most powerful environmental influences on human metabolism. Nutrition forms an important part of our chronic-disease programs.
Lifestyle Medicine
Physical activity, sunlight, sleep, circadian rhythm, hydration and other lifestyle factors may be addressed.
Metabolic Health
We pay particular attention to insulin resistance, glucose regulation, visceral fat, lipid abnormalities and other metabolic disturbances.
Stress & Nervous-System Support
Chronic stress, poor sleep and autonomic imbalance can influence metabolic and cardiovascular health. Breathing practices and relaxation strategies may form part of care.
Laboratory Monitoring
When appropriate, objective measurements are repeated to determine whether the patient's condition is improving.
Patient Education
We want patients to understand their bodies and their condition instead of remaining permanently dependent on instructions they do not understand.
Education before medication
“Society needs more health education and less dependence on medication.”
This does not mean S19 is against pharmaceutical medicine - medicines can be essential and lifesaving. But healthcare becomes incomplete when long-term treatment focuses only on medication while modifiable contributors such as nutrition, obesity, insulin resistance, inactivity, smoking, alcohol, stress and poor sleep are ignored.
- What is happening?
- Why might it be happening?
- What can be changed?
- What needs to be monitored?
- What requires conventional medical treatment?
- What can nutrition, lifestyle and herbal medicine reasonably contribute?
S19 is not anti-medicine
Different medical tools have different roles. There are circumstances where pharmaceuticals, surgery, emergency medicine, hospitalization or specialist intervention are indispensable, and natural medicine should never delay necessary emergency or specialist care.
Use the right intervention, for the right patient, at the right time.
Chronic & metabolic health
More than symptom control.
Chronic and metabolic diseases develop over years and involve multiple interacting factors. In Type 2 diabetes, reducing blood glucose is important - but we also consider the metabolic processes behind elevated glucose: insulin resistance, excess visceral fat, physical inactivity, nutrition, sleep, stress, inflammation and other relevant risk factors.
Our approach to Type 2 diabetes
- 1
Blood Sugar Management
Bring elevated blood glucose under better control and reduce immediate metabolic risk.
- 2
Remission
For appropriate patients with Type 2 diabetes, work toward maintaining glucose below the diabetic range without glucose-lowering medication where this can be achieved safely under appropriate medical supervision.
- 3
Durable Metabolic Improvement
Address modifiable drivers of Type 2 diabetes - particularly insulin resistance, excess visceral fat, nutrition and inactivity - to improve long-term glucose regulation and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Management → Remission → Durable Metabolic Health
Type 1 diabetes is fundamentally different. People with Type 1 diabetes require insulin replacement; herbal medicine must never be presented as a substitute for lifesaving insulin.
Measurement matters
A patient saying “I feel better” is valuable, but where appropriate we also want measurable evidence of progress. This is one of the central differences between S19 and purely traditional herbal practice.
- Did HbA1c improve?
- Did fasting glucose improve?
- Did fasting insulin improve?
- Did blood pressure improve?
- Did inflammatory markers improve?
- Did the lipid profile improve?
- Did kidney or liver markers change?
- Did relevant imaging or other investigations improve?
Personalized care
Two people can have the same diagnosis while having very different underlying problems. Age, medical history, medications, laboratory findings, nutrition, lifestyle, disease severity and other conditions all shape an S19 program. Same disease does not automatically mean the same treatment.
Patient participation
The patient is not a passive recipient of medicine; the patient becomes part of the treatment process.
- Nutrition
- Lifestyle changes
- Appropriate monitoring
- Following treatment instructions
- Reporting symptoms and changes
- Completing recommended investigations
- Learning about their condition
Continuous monitoring
Chronic-disease management is never Consultation → Medication → Go home. We emphasize follow-up: patients may be asked to monitor glucose, blood pressure, symptoms, nutrition and treatment response, and investigations may be repeated when appropriate - so programs evolve according to real-world response.
What makes S19 different
A modern African integrative health clinic.
Science-Based Herbalism
Traditional medicinal plants interpreted through modern scientific knowledge.
Root-Cause Thinking
Looking beyond symptoms toward contributing biological and lifestyle factors.

S19 in 30 seconds
S19 Herbal Clinic combines non-conventional therapies, science-based herbal medicine, laboratory investigation, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, patient education and continuous monitoring to provide personalized, root-cause-oriented healthcare.
We do not simply ask: “What medicine treats this disease?” We ask: “What is happening inside this person, what factors are contributing to it, what can be changed, and how can we measure whether those changes are working?”
Science-Based Herbalism. Root-Cause Healthcare. Education. Investigation. Personalization. Monitoring.
The goal is not simply to manage disease. The goal is to build better health.
